So I’ve been slowly creeping along the BMW history archives and learning more about the 3 Series lineup history.
Whats really amazing me is the transition from the original boxy, defined 3 Series to the now curved silhouette that the 3 Series and the entire BMW line, for that matter, carries. Just take a look at the E30 1982 318i and the current 2016 BMW 320i.
When the E30 was launched, it was offered in coupe, sedan, cabriolet, and touring body styles with the choice of either a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engines. What made this car so popular? The fact that it appealed to people who wanted a sports car dressed as a passenger sedan. Now that sounds like my kind of car. Who doesn’t love a sleeper? I think that this car was the definition of a sleeper that appealed to racing enthusiasts and casual weekend drivers alike.
